The South Poll breed was started in 1989 by Teddy Gentry (from the band Alabama). He got the idea to genetically combine the best traits of four species: Angus, Hereford, Senepol, and Barzona, resulting in what we know today as the South Poll breed. South Poll cattle are bred for their fertility and their longevity. They are very heat tolerant, allowing them to finish in different types of climatic environments. South Polls also have a very gentle disposition.
